| 2008-09-10 | Posted By: Lynne Pope One step upgrade patch from Mambo 4.6.2 to Mambo 4.6.5 In response to public demand, Team Mambo has released a new patch that will upgrade Mambo straight from version 4.6.2 to the latest stable release, which is Mambo 4.6.5. This upgrade brings in a number of bug fixes, performance improvements and security enhancements, all together in one upgrade. It also fixes a couple of potentially serious vulnerabilities that were identified in Mambo 4.6.2 and earlier versions. The new Mambo 4.6.2 to 4.6.5 patch means you have only one upgrade to do to bring you from Mambo 4.6.2. You can download the patch files on our code forge here. It also means that anyone upgrading from Mambo 4.5, has only two upgrades to do to get to Mambo 4.6.5. There are no database changes between Mambo 4.5.2 and Mambo 4.5.5/4.5.6 so you just need to use the Mambo 4.5.5 to Mambo 4.6.2 upgrade patch to take your site to Mambo 4.6.2. Then apply this latest patch release and voila! Your site will be using the latest version of Mambo. (NOTE: You may, of course, have other work to do depending on what extensions you are running). Look for the 4.5.5 to 4.6.2 patch here on the forge. Full instructions for the upgrades are contained within the packages - please read them. Both this new upgrade patch and the older patch from version 4.5.5 to 4.6.2 require database changes. The SQL queries you need to run are all detailed in the instructions. If you are not sure how to run database updates, there is a guide to "How to Apply SQL Upgrades using phpMyAdmin" on our Mambo Manual wiki. |

| 2008-01-23 | Posted By: Lynne Pope Release of Mambo 4.5.6 - the end of an era The Mambo Team announces the final release of the Mambo 4.5.x series of releases. This marks the end of an era for one of the web's most popular Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Content Management Systems (CMS). The enormous success of Mambo 4.5.x led to many forks, some successful, some less so. "Mambo 4.5 has been a great CMS, a good framework, and a great school to many of us", says Ozgur Cem Sen, Core Team Leader of Mambo. "We have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback we've received for the Mambo 4.6.x series, initialy released over 16 months ago", continues Mr. Sen. "We encourage all Mambo users to upgrade to the latest stable release of Mambo 4.6." During the last several months, the Mambo Team has been working very hard on the upcoming Mambo 4.7, as well as maintaining and doing minor development on Mambo 4.6.x. The Mambo Team also has been discussing Mambo 5. "It is time to look forward, and focus our efforts towards growth", says Nicolas Steenhout, Secretary of the Mambo Foundation, Inc. Project Leader, Chad Auld says that this is both a sad and an exciting time for Mambo. "It is always sad to see software reaching the end of development," Chad says, "Mambo 4.5 has been with us for many years". He adds, "Mambo 4.5's time has passed and Mambo is moving forward to an even better future. With 4.7 getting closer to release and planning underway for Mambo 5.0, we have exciting things coming." Team Mambo supports those sentiments and wishes to thank everyone who contributed to Mambo 4.5. This is an exciting step forward for Mambo and one which the Team hopes will be supported by the community. Farewell Mambo 4.5! What's Changed? 1) Hardened security. 2) Updated mod_templatechooser to improve security. 3) Fixed a small issue with the PDF code. 4) Fixed a PHPMailer issue 5) Fixed login and logout redirection issue. Mambo 4.5.6 is code named "Sunset". You can get it here: http://mambo-code.org/gf/project/mambo/frs/?action=FrsReleaseView&release_id=304 |

| 2008-01-10 | Posted By: Lynne Pope Security Vulnerability Quick Patch Earlier today, Team Mambo was alerted to a security vulnerability in the search component and module that generates a large number of queries if certain strings are input. This creates a major impact on the server's available resources and can lead to the site going down. While we intend to have two new releases out within this next week, the search vulnerability is of enough concern that we have just released a patch. This vulnerability affects all versions of Mambo. It may also affect other CMS that are based on the Mambo code. If you are using Mambo 4.5.5, please go here and download the patch file: http://mambo-code.org/gf/download/frsrelease/298/542/20080110-Mambo45x-SearchPatch.zip For all versions of Mambo 4.6, please download this file: http://mambo-code.org/gf/download/frsrelease/298/544/20080110-Mambo46x-SearchPatch.zip This is not an upgrade. The files contained in the release will overwrite and replace existing files. To install, either unzip locally and upload via ftp, or upload the patch and unzip on your server through your server control panel, such as cPanel. We urge all Mambo users to apply this patch as soon as possible. |
